Ship Model
A wooden ship model, finished apart from the sails — loosely inspired by a traditional Frisian sailing barge, a skûtsje — worked on from 2017 to 2026 in my grandfather’s garage.

Where it started
The first version
A plain carved hull with a simple deckhouse — the same boat, before the nine years of work that followed.
Step 1
Building the hull
The hull hollowed out and the deck structures roughed in, with the inside still open.
Step 2
Planking the hull
Plank by plank over the frame — deck fittings and the rudder go on once the hull itself is closed up.
Step 3
Mast and bowsprit
Mounted on its base with the mast stepped and the bowsprit fitted — before the rigging, before the paint.
2017–2026
Today
Fully rigged, painted and flagged.

Inside the hold
Rope, chain, canvas and tiny fittings, all packed into the hold.
